The Loud Ring of Truth

I thought of you often this week. And again today, with you once more on my mind, the truth of Colossians 3:12 et. seq. pierces my heart with love and compassion for you and so many others.

Last Sunday a Gordon-Conwell visiting professor spoke of the past week’s victories for the Evil One in the little Congregational church I was visiting in Magnolia, Massachusetts. All of its 30-or-so parishioners listened with teary eyes and heavy hearts as he listed the failures of gun dealers, politicians, the Southern Baptist Convention, and my former Pastor. My tears still flow. Yet, the sobering reality that evil is pressing in on me, breathing down my neck, hunting to destroy me and the weak and unaware is met with my resolute shout, “No, not today, or tomorrow, or ever you lying, powerless Defeated One!”

With you in mind, dear reader friend, and Colossians 3 on my lips, I declare the truth to you and to the hurting and wounded, “You [and I] are always and dearly loved by God!” and “Christ’s resurrection is your [and my] resurrection too.”

I am cheering for you with my arms waving wildly and my heart full of mercy to understand, compassionate kindness, gentleness, and forgiveness.

Peace to you and me from the Anointed One. I am thankful for you and your friendship as I listen closely to the beautiful ringing sound of another precious truth:

“And I heard a thunderous voice from the throne, saying: “Look! God’s tabernacle is with human beings. And from now on he will tabernacle with them as their God. Now God himself will have his home with them— ‘God-with-them’ will be their God! He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and eliminate death entirely. No one will mourn or weep any longer. The pain of wounds will no longer exist, for the old order has ceased.”
