The River of Life
In many places in God's Word, I am given assurance that the Most High is with us. His personal presence is with his sons and daughters, We have been experiencing His wonderful presence these past few weeks as our family gathered together to love and care for each other. It was palpable and oh, so refreshing, in the summer heat. His flowing river of life filled our cups with sweet nourishment and our hearts with abundant love. He is here. We are satisfied and grateful.

We've been spending lots of time in the mountain streams and lakes around us. One special afternoon, Chris, Nathan, and I waded in the rushing water, panned for gold (for hours), and picnicked in the dappled sunlight at waters edge on warm slabs of mountain granite. Although we only discovered "Fools Gold," you would have thought, in the moment, we were multi-millionaires as we negotiated who got what percentage of the fortune and what it might buy. Later, as our fortunes quickly dissolved when we referenced our geology handbook, we were only slightly crest-fallen. We are no fools: the laughter and everlasting memories are priceless.
The rest of our time together took us to the zoo, a baseball game, days spent at the beach club, trips to see the grandbabies (and their parents), fishing camp, many movies and more hands of gin rummy than I care to count. Nathan is entering his teens and it is such a blessing to watch him grow. His heart is growing faster than his limbs. He is a remarkable wonder! God has given us a long drink from His life-giving river as His presence has rushed into our lives lately.
One day, for each of us who have placed our trust in Him, we will be standing on streets of gold to enjoy these life-giving waters again and again and again. His Word says, "Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, flowing with water clear as crystal, continuously pouring out from the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Rev 22:1)" Beside the river are the trees of life and their fruit will bring healing, break every curse, and put an end to the darkness of night. Moreover, we will bask in the perpetual light of the Lord and reign as kings forever and ever! I believe that God makes abundant life available to us today. Psalms 46:4-5 brings to mind that "God has a constantly flowing river whose sparkling streams bring joy and delight to His people." "One day" is "today." In case I forget, I am reminded that He says, "Everyone look! Come and see the breathtaking wonders of our God...The mighty Lord of Angel Armies is on our side. The God of Jacob fights for us! (Ps 46 8-9)"
We love you Father God and thank you for Jesus from whose pierced side flowed the water of life. Holy Spirit, come, refresh us in your river of life. You love us dearly.
Praying for you and your family today. Jump into the river! All is well.
- Susan (of the Wildflowers) and "Grammie!" Hallelujah!
